The World Bank and Greenpeace estimate that 80% of the Amazon rainforest is being destroyed due to cattle ranching. Conversion of forest land to cattle pasture results in nearly a complete loss of carbon stored in above-ground vegetation. It also destroys the home for some of the most unique species on Earth.
