Food and community go hand-in-hand. It is so important to be around people who can cheer for your interest in plant-based foods. Having support and smiles around you makes the whole process easier and allows you to keep going. Here are a few tips to get started.

Get people onboard who shop or cook for you. If your partner or parents buy groceries or cook the meals, it is much easier if they are ready and interested to cook vegan options as well.

Host a vegan potluck. Show off different recipes & foods to people who might have never considered or tried such a thing. Make it a positive, fun experience. Vegan BBQs, snacks during game nights, and more.

When going out with friends, suggest a vegan or vegan-friendly restaurant. Use apps like Happy Cow.

Host a movie night or book club on the benefits of veganism. There are a lot of options to choose from; take a look the titles mentioned here under each topic’s Resources section. See if there are any farmed animal sanctuaries near you that you can visit with some friends.

Farmed animal sanctuaries are like petting zoos but with cows, pigs, chickens…

Make more friends who are also interested in veganism. Go to different vegan food fairs in your area, like Veg Fest, or community events by faiths that are inherently vegan, like Buddhists or Adventists. Find online or in-person vegan events near you on VegEvents.

Try starting a Meatless Mondays initiative at your work, school, or home. If you need someone to give a talk about animal agriculture, get in touch with FFAC or Tobias Leenaert. Live Kindly: Latest vegan news in business, laws, food, and entertainment. Focus on recipes.

You can know the latest vegan news in business, laws, food, and entertainment through sites like Live Kindly (focus on food) and Plant Based News (focus on health).

You will receive questions from people around you who mostly mean well for you. You can keep some fun responses ready. Communicate with compassion and open-mindedness, and avoid getting stressed by learning tips from Mr. Leenaert.
